ALDAGEN is developing a strong patent portfolio around its core technology. ALDAGEN exclusively licensed its initial intellectual property from Duke University and Johns Hopkins. The issued patents and pending applications provide a significant barrier for other companies to develop products based on the ALDH cell sorting methods and the use of the cell populations for therapy.

ALDAGEN intellectual property strategy provides both broad claims around core technology as well as more focused claims around methods of isolation and methods surrounding use of the isolated cell populations. In general terms, ALDAGEN has either issued or pending patents that cover:

	Enriched cellular compositions, comprising human pluripotent stem cells substantially free from expression of markers specific for committed lymphohematopoietic cells

	Basic approach of flow sorting of stem cell populations based on a fluorescent ALDH substrate

	The specific chemistry of fluorescent substrate used in the ALDH technology

	Cell populations using the ALDH cell sorting method

	Kits for use in the ALDH cell sorting method, and

	Specific applications for using the cell populations
